About Page & Small Opticians

Page and Small TeamRay Small opened the practice, formerly named Ray Small Optometrists, in 1993. His aim was to provide competitively priced, quality eyecare to the whole community in a professional, caring and family-orientated environment.  Today, he is really proud of the excellent reputation the practice has built with local residents – from toddlers to the elderly.   Read some of our patients’ testimonials.

Over the years, the practice has truly become a family concern as both Abigail Page, Ray’s daughter, and Christine, his wife, are now both responsible for the day-to-day running of the business.

To reflect the family’s involvement in the practice, and following consultation with our patients, we decided to amend the name of the practice in January 2011 to Page & Small Opticians.

Charity of the Year Scheme
Last year with your help, Ray raised £793 for great Ormond Street children’s Hospital by trekking 22 miles along the remaining sections of Hadrian’s Wall.  This year we would like to support a local Charity and invite you to help us decide which one.  If there is a particular local charity close to your heart, please email us at
info@pageandsmallopticians.co.uk and tell us why.  We will announce the decision in April 2011.

Ray graduated from City University London with a BSc (Hons) in Optometry in 1979. In his final year he was awarded the Special Study prize.  After working for several practices including both small independents and large multiples, he decided to 'go it alone' and he opened the practice, formerly named Ray Small Optometrists, in 1993.  Ray has developed and continues to develop his skills in several specialist areas including Children's eye exams, home visits, learning difficulties and glaucoma detection and monitoring.  He also serves as vice chairman on the Local Optical committee.  Most of Ray's spare time over the last 2 years has been spent building his workshop where, once completed he plans to take up his hobby of woodturning.
