Your glasses are more than just a way to see clearly—they’re a big part of your daily routine, your comfort, and even your style. Whether you wear them all day, just for reading, or for specific tasks, looking after your glasses properly helps them last longer and keeps your vision crisp and clear.
Here are our top tips for keeping your specs in top shape:
1. Clean them regularly (but gently!)
Use a microfibre cloth and proper lens cleaning spray to remove smudges and dirt. Avoid using your shirt, tissues, or household cleaners—they can scratch lenses or damage coatings.
2. Don’t leave them lens-down
Always rest your glasses with the lenses facing up to avoid unnecessary scratches. Better yet, pop them back in their case when not in use.
3. Use both hands to take them off
Removing your glasses one-handed can bend the arms or misalign the frame. Using both hands helps keep the shape balanced and comfortable.
4. Keep them in their case
When your glasses aren’t on your face, the safest place for them is in a hard, protective case—especially if you’re on the go or tossing them into a bag or pocket.
5. Avoid extreme heat
Leaving your glasses in a hot car or near a heat source (like a radiator or oven) can warp plastic frames and damage lens coatings. Try to store them somewhere cool and dry.
6. Check screws and hinges
If your glasses start to feel loose, don’t ignore it—tighten the tiny screws if you can, or pop in and we’ll adjust them for you. Loose hinges can quickly lead to breakages if left too long.
7. Don’t wear them on your head
It might be convenient, but it stretches the arms and can make your glasses looser over time—not to mention the risk of them falling off and getting scratched.
8. Schedule regular fittings and adjustments
Your face shape and how your glasses sit can change over time. A quick check-up at the practice means we can tweak the fit, replace nose pads, and ensure your glasses are working perfectly for you.
9. Keep a spare pair
Accidents happen—so if your glasses are essential for driving, work, or reading, it’s worth having a backup pair just in case.
